Camp Mennoscah – NCFC Retreat

Saturday’s drive to Camp Mennoscah was a familiar one, but lacked the summer heat that was present when we drove our kids to camp many years ago.

Olivia Bartel is camp director.   She sends her greetings to the Lichti guys who she remembers as being a LOT of fun!  Which one of you made the superman cape out of duct tape and newspapers?

Bird watching

People watching

Game playing

Walk taking

River watching

Plant identifying

Baby holding

Camp fire singing

Food preparing

Sleeping

Worshiping

= Refreshing weekend.

Back home again in Indiana …

Last Friday (4/30) I tried to get to South Bend by 5pm on Delta Airlines via Atlanta.  Instead I arrived in Indianapolis at 11:45pm.  Airplane troubles.  Thankfully Nolan & Nancy were able to accomodate my change of plans.

Saturday evening we gathered in the Goshen area with my cousins and their kids and grandkids – celebrating Aunt Lois’s 98th birthday.  She is happiest when we all get together.

Sunday afternoon we headed back to Indianapolis.  Did you know Georgia can mimic a high whistle with her singing?  Pretty impressive!  We worked and played and then it was time for me get back to Newton – taking time to visit the butterfly house on the way to the airport.  Fun times!

April 2010

It’s been an outstanding spring – with the most blossoms on trees and shrubs that I’ve seen in years.

And there was no killing frost to spoil them

April 10 Lucca Kauffman (5) spent the day with us.

We visited the Bartlett Arboretum in Belle Plain

that was celebrating it’s 100th anniversary –

a beautiful space –  lots of flowers and BIG old trees

And water and bridges.

Speaking of trees – we have a rather large new honey locust tree in our front yard –

replacing the poor maple that never looked very healthy and then up and blew over last spring!

April 16 Edith and I enjoyed our annual trip to the MCC Sale in Hutchinson.  A few plants, a few fabrics, a bit of food, a bit of visiting – a full evening!

Tomorrow (Saturday) is Erin Runge & Manny Bariocio’s wedding in Hesston.  And I need to get my vegetable garden plants.  Can I shop at Stone Creek in my wedding clothes?

Next Friday I head to Indiana – Goshen area first to visit my siblings, cousins and celebrate Aunt Lois’s 98th birthday.  Sunday I’ll head to Indy with Nolan, Nancy & Georgia – staying until Tuesday eve.  Fun times ahead!

And THAT, my friend – takes care of April!

Can you believe it?!

Loss:  our friends Dave & Anita moved to Baltimore

Gain:  we bought their couch for our basement

Now there’s room for nearly EVERYONE to sit and watch the games!

Come and give it a try.

January 2010

January was strange.

Many mornings we’ve awakened to fog

and freezing which created hoarfrost on the plants –

Then there was the morning with a light coating of ice,

but the frog was a cheerful as ever!

This is our resident red hawk that has been spending

the winter in the field behind the house.

Christmas 2009

Christmas eve – the “local” Lichtis plus Tom & Marla from Illinois
gathered at our home.
Farkle was the game of the evening.

Christmas day – Our flight to Buffalo was cancelled.
We enjoyed brunch and games with Bradley & Renee & Luka
and a quiet evening at home, preparing (again) to fly to Buffalo.

When we arrived in Buffalo –
Bowling and pizza were first on the list of things to do together!

The little ones and Grandma enjoyed the lane with the bumpers …
And the big ones played without.

Games were played, cookies were decorated (and eaten),

presents were opened, and we enjoyed being together –

and missed those family members who weren’t able to come.

Lovin’ cousins

Then came the snow …

Benjamin and Grandpa were on sidewalk duty.
